Recent and Selected Projects
North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, 2007
Interpretive plan for visitor experiences (schematic design phase) in a new wing of the museum focusing on how scientists study the natural world.
Life Changes exhibit collaboration, 2007
Concept and scripting for an animated book/theater program, the centerpiece of an NSF-funded traveling exhibit for children on bird evolution. In this project, have worked closely with a researcher to incorporate her findings on how children learn about evolution; also with evaluators, designers, and an illustrator.
Lindsay Wildlife Museum, 2006 to 2007
Interpretive plan (concept design phase) for new exhibits throughout the museum.
Denali National Park, 2005
Scripting and production of a video (Climbing Denali) to run at the Talkeetna Visitor Center in Alaska.

Recent exhibit label writing includes work for: The Franklin Institute (Identity temporary exhibit), The Tech Museum (Green By Design), Tahoe Maritime Museum (new museum), Georgia Aquarium (upgrade of existing labels), and Monterey Bay Aquarium (various projects).

San Francisco Zoo, 2000 to 2003
Directed and coordinated the interpretive work on new exhibit projects: African Savanna, Koret Animal Resource Center, and Lemur Forest. Managed teams of staff and contractors, oversaw schedules and budgets, and developed interpretive standards, including the Zoo‚s approach to conservation education in its exhibits.
Conservation Psychology in Zoos and Aquariums workshop, January 2003
Organized a three-day workshop to explore the application of conservation psychology to zoo and aquarium exhibits.
Seymour Marine Discovery Center, 1999 to 2000
Developed exhibits for a new visitor center at Long Marine Lab, UC Santa Cruz. Produced label text for the exhibits, managing the work of four other writers.
Carneros Quality Alliance, 1998 to 1999
Developed, wrote, and acted as managing editor for Carneros: travels along the Napa-Sonoma edge, a guidebook to exploring wine country geography.
Boston Museum of Science and Industry, 1996
Wrote label text for Leonardo, an exhibit of Leonardo da Vinci‚s drawings and models that explored his life as an artist, scientist, and inventor.
Monterey Bay Aquarium, 1984 to 1995
Worked on most of the exhibits developed during this period, including the original exhibit wing, the 1996 expansion, and special exhibits Mating Games, Planet of the Jellies, Sharks!, The Three Seasons of Monterey Bay, and Mexico‚s Secret Sea (which won the AAM 1989 Curator's Award). Work included exhibit development, label writing and editing, interactives development, video scripting and direction, and visitor studies. Have continued contract work with the aquarium since then.
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, various dates
Wrote label text for several visitor center and wayside panel interpretive projects around the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Field Museum of Natural History, 1987 to 1989
Wrote label text for new and renovated exhibits as part of a major modernization of the museum directed by Michael Spock.
